My husband & I want to adopt an adult Weimaraner but we’re 4 hours from the Weimaraner Rescue of Texas group. What do you suggest in finding our Weim to adopt near Houston Texas? I’ve searched Pet Harbor, Pet Finder & Adopt a Pet using my zip code.

    • Anne Taguchi says:

Hi Carolyn! Thanks for looking into rescuing! Honestly? I wouldn’t let 4 hours deter you. Reach out and fill out an application. Most groups service a very wide area, often several states. There may be a dog near you!

  2. Susan Cochran says:

For the first time in 22 years I am without a Weimaraner. There are no rescue groups in New York State and many rescues do not adopt out to NYS I have been searching for an older female for several months. I currently own a 4 yo neutered male GSP and 2 cats so just any Weim would not do as most are prey driven…..My GSP is somewhat dominant although he did live nicely with my previous Weim for 3 years until she passed in February of 2021. I am retired so Im home 24/7, I miss my girl soooo much….My application has been accepted by Grayter Good but they have no matches for me at this time….

    • Anne Taguchi says:

Hi Susan! I hope Grayter Good can find a match for you soon! Maybe you can also consider reaching out to breeders to see if they might have some retired girls that would be suitable for you. Best of luck!

  3. Barbara Hansen says:

Please help me find a male, any age. I lost my 5 year old to Blastomycosis which was not known to be on Long Island, NY. I desperately need a male companion for my 10 yr. old female and for ME.

    • Anne Taguchi says:

Hi Barbara, please reach out to the rescues near you, and you might also want to consider going to weimaranerbreeders.org to find a reputable breeder. Best of luck in your search!

      • Barbara Hansen says:

The only rescue listed is tri- state and they do not have any dogs. All others do not mention New York or Long Island. There are many in other states and I cannot travel far.

  4. Susan Cochran says:

Where can I find a list of reputable breeders near me who may have retired bitches who need a home? It is so very difficult to find rescues that adopt to NYS.

  5. KA Taylor says:

we have a one year old Weim, that we are considering putting up for adoption. It is a very difficult decision, but it may be for the best. I am military and we have to travel far too much for this to remain tenable. He is a great dog, and our second Weim. But the season of life we are in and the frequency of our travel and moving makes it difficult to give him the time, care and attention he needs. We are in the Southern VA area. And we are open to suggestions…

    • Anne Taguchi says:

So sorry to hear that you will have to give him up, but a one year old is still young! Please contact your local rescue group for help.

  6. Barbara says:

Thank you. I have been in touch with all of these rescues for the passed 10 months without any luck. I am on Long Island . I can travel but not far. Please keep me informed/

  7. KA Taylor says:

Anne and Barbara, thank you for your replies. We haven’t completely given up yet. We will continue to care for and love on him while we figure out the best situation for him. Your concern and support means a great deal to me, and I wish you both the best.

    • Anne Taguchi says:

Best of luck to you and your family! Perhaps you might be able to find a friend that would be willing to take him while you travel?
