It’s time to catch up with Rab. He’s been busy! Life has been full of adventure for Rab being a Weimaraner puppy, growing up and learning some basic rules, and most of all, the becoming a member of the Ferguson family. And having LOADS of fun along the way, of course!
Though Rab is to be a hunting dog, he first has to learn to be a great family dog. He got a great start at the breeders with a lot of exposure to, well, everything, and the Ferguson family has continued this important education for Rab. Thus, he has continued to encounter new things with a sense of adventure and confidence.
Rab also learned his house manners very quickly, thanks to the Ferguson’s consistency and vigilance, and also because they helped Rab succeed in his lessons. One of their favorite tools in making house breaking a snap was Rab’s playpen, errr… I mean, his THUNDER DOME! Annie had been calling it his “playpen,” but Iain would have none of that, so it is now referred to as the “thunder dome.” LOL!
The thunder dome is basically an ex-pen. Because ex-pens are easy to move from room to room, it means that Rab can be with the family yet contained when a strict eye could not be kept on him. It helped prevent potty accidents and from creating bad chewing habits. The other benefit of the thunder dome is that it facilitated his learning to be calm and quiet at certain times.
Rab is of course still a young puppy, full of energy, curiosity and a zest for life! Channeling this energy into positive training situations and socialization has been the focus for the Ferguson family, and so far, as you can see, the Ferguson’s are off to a great start with Rab!

Camping with a puppy is great for bonding and socialization. Rab grew and learned a lot on this trip!

Great nickname for the ex-pen!
I know, it cracks me up every time I think of “the thunder dome”!!
